Are You Taking Action, Or Just Dreaming About It?
If you want results in your life, if you dream of success and the finer thing come with success, then you must be taking action to make these things happen. This is absolutely one of the most amazing rules of life that tends to escape the masses.
Have you ever been accused of being a dreamer? Dreamers are a necessary part of life, because without dreamers, who would think of some of the most amazing inventions to hit the marketplace? However, not one of those inventions would have ever come to be if the person who first dreamed about it didn’t wake up and take action.
Couch potatoes sit and watch the one eyed monster, hoping and dreaming that someday their ship will come in. They have a lottery mentality and have taken root on that couch. Getting them up off of that couch is almost impossible, and yet they complain because life isn’t treating them right, they complain that there is never enough money, they complain, and complain, and complain about everything.
Dreaming about it will never make it happen. Hoping for it will never make it happen. The only thing that will ever make it happen is for the dreamer to first dream about it, then let their passion for the project grow, and then make plans to make that dream come true, and… when all of that has been done, they must take action and make it happen.
Before Taking Action You Need A Blueprint
Examine the life of a successful person. They started out with a dream. Chances are they had the same dream that some couch potato somewhere had. The couch potato sat on their butt dreaming while the successful person started to make plans to make their dream a reality. They drew out the blueprint, mapped out their strategy, considered the pro’s and the con’s, and with careful planning took that all important first step and took action. The couch potato continued to dream.
There it is…you now know the difference between the successful person and the person who only hopes to be successful.
“The reason most people never reach their goals is that they don’t define them, or ever seriously consider them as believable or achievable. Winners can tell you where they are going, what they plan to do along the way, and who will be sharing the adventure with them.” — Denis Watley
Fear is a bug eyed monster that holds many people back from taking action. There are those who fear that they will fail when they attempt to chase their dreams. Failure scares them so much they are immobilized. And yet, that immobilization guarantees their failure because they never do anything more than dream about the success they might have if they would only take action towards making their dreams come true.
There are those who are motivated by their fear. They are more afraid of not succeeding than they are of failure. They push through their fear and strive with every bit of energy they have to make their dreams come true. There are a lot of successful people will tell you that they failed many times along the way. They learned from each failure, and kept moving forward. It was their failures that eventually propelled them towards success. In order to succeed, you must have the courage to fail.
The world makes way for the man who knows where he is going.
— Ralph Waldo Emerson
If you haven’t taken action and haven’t chased your dreams, pause right now and ask yourself why you haven’t? What is it that is holding you back? Are you sweating the small stuff and letting your fear control you? Or…perhaps you don’t have a big enough “why” to pull you up off of that couch. You’ve got to have a “why,” you’ve got to have a purpose. If you don’t have that why yet, read our blog post “What Is Your Why?”
Today Is A Good Day For Taking Action
Today is as good of a day as any to get started, for there is not time like the present. When you know your why, taking the necessary actions to make your dreams come true, should come naturally. You don’t need a degree to be successful, you only need a good dream, a good plan, and then the courage to follow through on that plan.
Newtons first law of motion states that an object at rest stays at rest. This law applies to the couch potato. If you don’t take action, then nothing happens. It is that simple. Talking about it doesn’t make it happen. Think about your dream. Ask yourself what you can do to make it a reality? Then take that all important first baby step. Taking action must follow the dream if the dream is become a reality.
